The word search engine runs entirely in your browser. The letters you type are never sent to our servers.
What we collect — and what we don't
Scramblfix is built around the idea that a word game tool doesn't need to know who you are. When you type letters into the unscrambler, those letters go directly to a Web Worker running inside your own browser. They are not sent to any server. We have no database of your searches, no user accounts, and no profiles.
The only data that leaves your device during normal use is the word list itself — the app fetches a dictionary file from a public GitHub repository when it first loads. That's a one-way download, and the request doesn't include anything about what you typed.
Local storage
Scramblfix saves some information in your browser's local storage so your preferences and progress carry over between visits. This data stays on your device only — it is never transmitted to us. It includes:
- Your colour theme preference (light or dark)
- Your font size setting
- Your search history (last 20 searches)
- Words you have saved to Favourites
- Your XP total, level, streak count, and badge progress
- Daily challenge and Word of the Day completion state
- Whether you have activated the ad-free option
- Visit count (used only to time when the upgrade prompt appears)
You can clear all of this by going to your browser settings, finding site data for scramblfix, and deleting it. Alternatively, open your browser's developer tools, go to Application → Local Storage, and delete the wu2 key. This resets everything — theme, history, favourites, XP — to default.
The contact form
If you use the contact form on our Contact page, your name, email address, and message are submitted through Formspree, a third-party form processing service. We receive your message by email and use it only to respond to you. We don't share your contact information with anyone. Formspree's own privacy policy governs how they handle the data in transit.
Advertising
By default, Scramblfix displays ads. Ad networks may use cookies and similar technologies to show relevant ads based on browsing behaviour. These are set by the ad network, not by us. If you purchase the ad-free option for $0.99/month, ads are removed immediately and no ad network code runs during your visit.
Third-party connections
The app makes two external requests during normal use:
- GitHub (raw.githubusercontent.com) — downloads the word list on first load. The request contains only the file URL — no personal data.
- Free Dictionary API (api.dictionaryapi.dev) — fetches a definition when you tap a word card. Only the word itself is sent in the request URL. No personal data is included.
Children's privacy
Scramblfix does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. There is no account system and no personal data collection beyond what is described above.
Changes to this policy
If we meaningfully change how we handle your data, we will update this page and revise the date at the top. We will not bury important changes in a minor revision.
