How many letters can I enter into the word unscrambler?
Up to 15 letters at once, which covers every standard Scrabble or Words With Friends rack. You can also include ? or * for blank or wildcard tiles — the engine treats them as any letter and finds every valid combination.
Does Scramblfix work for Wordle and crosswords too?
Yes. Switch to Wordle mode to enter known letter positions (green tiles) and excluded letters (grey tiles) — the tool narrows down all valid 5-letter answers. Crossword mode lets you enter a pattern like ?EA? or _OT_ to find words matching a clue you are stuck on.
Is Scramblfix free to use?
Completely free — no account, no sign-up, no subscription. The site is supported by advertising, which is what keeps it free for everyone.
Why is a word missing from my results?
The dictionary is based on the ENABLE word list (Enhanced North American Benchmark Lexicon), which underpins the Official Scrabble Players Dictionary. Very new words, informal slang, British-only spellings, and proper nouns are generally not included. If you believe a standard Scrabble word is missing, use the contact form to let us know.
Does Scramblfix work offline?
Yes — after your first visit, the word list is cached by your browser. The unscrambler, Wordle helper, and crossword solver all work without an internet connection from that point on. Looking up definitions still requires connectivity since those come from an external dictionary API.
What is the Scrabble score shown next to each word?
Each word card shows its base Scrabble score (sum of individual tile values) and its Words With Friends score, which uses a slightly different point system. These are base scores without premium squares — multiply accordingly for double/triple letter or word squares on your actual board.
What does the ? or * wildcard do?
A ? or * in your input represents a blank tile. The engine finds every word your real letters can make combined with that blank substituting for any letter. This is the same as a blank tile on your Scrabble or Words With Friends rack — worth 0 points but can be any letter you need.
How is the word list different from the official Scrabble dictionary?
The ENABLE word list is very close to the Official Scrabble Players Dictionary (OSPD5) and Tournament Word List (TWL06), but not identical. A small number of words valid in tournament play may not appear, and a small number of ENABLE words may not be accepted in tournament Scrabble. For serious competitive play, always verify with the official TWL or SOWPODS lists.
Is using a word unscrambler considered cheating?
It depends on the context and your agreement with opponents. Scramblfix is most useful as a practice tool between games — to learn words you did not know existed, understand scoring patterns, and build vocabulary. See the full discussion in our guide on
